Email updates are sent out monthly to all Minnesota State Mankato faculty by the College of Graduate Studies and Research. The current month’s update is below. Past updates are available by clicking on the links in the left navigation.
Funded by the College of Graduate Studies and Research, the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award honors faculty who have distinguished themselves as outstanding scholars and whose scholarship has earned them national or international recognition. Beginning this year, the Award will be given to up to three faculty members annually. This year's recipients—who were selected by the Minnesota State Mankato Faculty Research Committee from among nine outstanding nominees—are Suzanne Bunkers, Department of English; David Dickau, Department of Music; and James Robertson, Department of Sociology and Corrections. As the first recipients in the history of the University, this year's awardees will launch a tradition of recognizing distinguished scholarship at Minnesota State Mankato.
Rather than recognizing a particular accomplishment, the Award recognizes a body of work—a substantial amount of which must have been completed at Minnesota State Mankato. In order to be eligible for the award, nominees must be tenured professors with at least eight years at Minnesota State Mankato. Each nominee must be sponsored by a member of the campus community who can attest to the nominee’s contributions to the University. In addition, each nomination must be supported by at least three external references who can attest to the impact of the nominee’s scholarship on his or her discipline.
This year’s recipients will be honored at a luncheon on Thursday, April 24th. In addition to the honor of being named Distinguished Faculty Scholars, they will receive $5,000 for professional development and research support. They will maintain the title of Distinguished Faculty Scholar for the duration of their tenure at Minnesota State Mankato.
