Congratulations to Vegard Aaland, graduate student in political science, whose master’s thesis, Exceptionalism in United States Foreign Policy Behavior, was selected as the Minnesota State Mankato nominee for the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) Distinguished Thesis Competition. Dr. Jackie Vieceli was the thesis advisor. Results of the MAGS competition will be announced in spring 2008.
The Graduate Sub Meet and Confer has proposed changes to the procedures for implementing the policy on Graduate Faculty Status. The proposed changes have been forwarded to the Faculty Association and the Academic Affairs Council for review. A summary of the proposed changes is available on the Graduate Studies and Research website.
Research News
The College of Graduate Studies and Research is pleased to announce that Dr. Steve Bohnenblust has been appointed Director of the Center for Excellence in Scholarship and Research (CESR). Dr. Bohnenblust will officially begin his new role in January 2008. In the meantime, faculty may send questions, requests for assistance, or suggestions to cesr@mnsu.edu or visit the CESR website for information about CESR services and programs.
Library Services, University Advancement and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RASP) have collaborated to purchase site licenses for the Chronicle of Higher Education and the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Faculty, staff and students now have access to subscriber privileges for both periodicals when linking directly to their websites from on campus or via the Memorial Library website from off-campus locations.
The National Science Foundation recently revised its Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG). The revisions will be effective for proposals received on or after January 5, 2008—although project directors are strongly encouraged to begin complying with the new guidelines immediately. The significant changes to the PPG include:
Revision of the intellectual merit review criterion to specifically include language on potentially transformative research;
Updated guidance on the designated fonts that may be used when preparing an NSF proposal; and
A requirement that organizations be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) prior to submitting a proposal to NSF.
