Elementary and Early Childhood

Special Requirements: Applicants must possess a valid teaching license from Minnesota or other state.

GPA requirement for admission to the M.S. Reading program is 3.0. If applicants do not meet the 3.0 requirement, they must score in the upper 50% nationally on the Graduate Record Exam or Miller Analogy Test. Applicants must also submit two recommendation forms (available from the department) from a school administrator addressing professional competence and another professional familiar with their work with children.

Special Education

The majority of the graduate program course requirments are completed online. International applicants should note that a Form I-20 will not be issued for study in this program.

For fall semester, the deadline is July 1
For spring semester, the deadline is November 20
For summer, the deadline is April 20

Special Requirements:A GPA of 3.2 is required for admission to the Master of Science program.  A GPA of 3.0 is required for admission to a certification program for teaching licensure.  International applicants must submit TOEFL results of 79 or a score of at least 6.5 on the academic IELTS.

Unless otherwise noted, applications for non-international students for the fall are due on July 1, and November 1 for the spring term. Applications from international applicants must be complete by May 1 for the fall semester, and October 1 for the spring semester. Application deadlines may be extended or changed by individual programs at any time, and applicants are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible. Applicants applying for a graduate assistantship are encouraged to apply by February 1, although many programs will continue to review assistantship applications until all positions are filled. Applicants applying for graduate assistantships and international applicants should apply well before any published deadlines.
