Participation Steps

Student Art Project
  1. Determine research topic.
  2. Select faculty mentor.
  3. Develop research/creative project. Use library resources for assistance.
  4. Check if IRB or IACUC approval is needed?
  5. Write grant proposal (see grant proposal guidelines).
  6. Fill out Funding Opportunities Application.
  7. Purchase supplies with the help of your faculty mentor and the department secretary.
  8. Work with faculty mentor to write conference abstract (see abstract submission guidelines).
  9. Fill out the Application to present.
  10. You will be contacted via email by the Graduate Assistant regarding abstract acceptance.
  11. Attend the Undergraduate Research Conference Workshop (see dates).
  12. Present at the Undergraduate Research Conference.
  13. Attend URC luncheon and award ceremony.
  14. Submit your presentation to the Conference Proceedings (see proceeding guidelines).
  15. You may also decide to submit to the Journal of Undergraduate Research (see journal guidelines).

  • NorthStar STEM Alliance Awards are available to qualified underrepresented ethnicities in specific STEM disciplines. See Funding Opportunities for details.
  • There is a maximum of five student researchers on all grant applications.
  • Faculty mentors can sponsor up to, but no more than, five grant applications and five URC Conference abstracts.
  • Grant submission is now partially electronic. Please see Grant Guidelines for details.
